Welcome to Midnight Musings
Let's find creativity in the between hours and build a punch needle rug hooking community.
Unpacking and Settling In
Hello, it’s me, Katie Stackhouse of Midnight Creative. We recently moved across the world from Alberta, Canada to Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, and the newsletter has also moved – to a new platform on Substack.
When I began sharing my punch needle fibre art in 2017, I was looking for a creative outlet, and more importantly, a way to stake down a piece of my identity that I thought might float away and become lost in the midst of motherhood.
I have primarily used Instagram to share both inspirational and educational content, and for a time I felt like I was making meaningful connections and contributing valuable content to my community.
But once again, in the wake of my family’s move to a new country and an ever-changing algorithm, I find myself looking for renewed purpose and a deeper connection to this community.
Plus, I want to be able to share more with you than 15-second messages and 1-minute reels – more stories, more ideas that come to me in the middle of the night amidst my mid-40’s insomnia, more in-depth tips, and more support for you as you also seek to explore and express your creative self.
And just as I said to my husband when we were deciding whether to make this giant leap with our family, “I think this move is going to allow us to do more together.”
So, what exactly is Midnight Musings?
Part blog about living a creative life amidst motherhood and womanhood, and part punch needle rug hooking support group. In essence, it’s a place to come for inspiration, to learn and improve your punch needle skills, and to develop your own ideas. With me as your personal cheerleader of course.
Is this for you?
Are you a punch needle (or traditional) rug hooker or someone who dabbles in various fibre arts? Do you want to start, but are just testing the waters via multiple Pinterest boards? Do you feel most like yourself when you are being creative? If you said yes, then this community is for you!
